Something happened to me recently that just won't let me go. Not so much because the situation itself was so serious, but more because I am not so sure how to deal with it. I clearly feel torn between two parts in myself. As if two different people were standing together in the boxing ring, punching each other. One person is very responsible, righteous and wants to do everything, as they should. The other person (who, in this case, gets the most blows) is afraid of disapproval from others, would like to keep the peace and wait in a corner for the storm to pass. In general, the responsible, mature person has the most authority and I know they will eventually prevail, but for now, ignorance is bliss and I wade into the rippling, calming waters of innocence for as long as it lasts.
Fear is like a ghost. Obstructive, paralysing, consuming, but generally unrealistic. Because fear is something you mostly create yourself; through the thoughts you choose. The obstacles you see, you put there yourself. Who decides that you should be afraid? How do you know if what you fear will happen will ever come true? These and other limiting thoughts often cause us to want a lot, but little ultimately comes out of our hands. That first step is often already so difficult, brings with it so many uncertainties, that we prefer to choose the safe path of doing nothing. And then comes the inner turmoil, because doing nothing does not bring you one step closer to your goal. And so you spin around in circles and your dilemma grows: fight or flight.
Do you know this feeling? Does the spectre of fear play a major role in your life and do you usually listen to what it has to say? Does it appear at everyday events, or at the more impactful ones? How does the spectre hinder you in what you want, in what you want to achieve?
I am curious about your experiences and invite you to share them here. For inspiration for yourself and perhaps for others.
Best wishes, Wanda
